Singapore Survey Claims 1 in 4 IT Workers Want to Quit

IT Company
Recently, the Strait Times published an article by Kezia Toh, stating that the Singapore Computer Society (CSC) conducted a survey revealing that one in four IT workers want to quit their jobs.

Reasons cited for professional dissatisfaction include:
  • Low prestige
  • Poor work-life balance
  • Lack of recognition
  • Being “treated as back-end staff in most companies – because IT is secondary to business, we are treated like ‘help’ and have to pander to people.”
  • People “speak to us rudely”
  • Long hours – “the time you could be spending with your family, you are either at work, working from home or waiting for a teleconference”

At NetGain, we know a significant reason IT professionals are dissatisfied every day, because our customers tell us every day – companies must automate functions to free up IT staff to get on with delivering real value to business

Infrastructure monitoring must be automated, and if you can get it delivered as a service (Infrastructure Monitoring as a Service or IMaaS) even better. Yet so many companies still do this manually and ineffectively, which means IT staff are spending valuable time monitoring IT infrastructure. If your IT team is doing this manually, they are unable to focus on delivering high impact business solutions, and that means they cannot gain the professional satisfaction that comes with contributing to your companies’ success.

If companies are serious about creating an environment that stimulates all employees – including their IT staff – then please, take our advice and look at what can be automated. Infrastructure monitoring should be automated, because when it is, the IT staff can be pro-active and fix problems BEFORE they get nasty calls from their “customers” – the employees of your organisation.

It wasn’t surprising that most of the dissatisfaction highlighted in this survey came from small to medium enterprises – companies who are not focused enough on what they can automate. The big multinationals make IT automation a priority. SMEs must follow in the same foot-steps and it does not have to be an expensive exercise. If fact, the service we offer is so cost-effective and delivers such high value, our customers tell us it frees up budget for more strategic IT spend.

So automate, automate, automate and your IT teams will be happier – we promise.

Cheers
The NetGain Team
